Discover Mount Ossa, also known as Kissavos, the Thessalian mountain standing opposite Olympus, separated by the stunning Vale of Tempi!
Join us for an amazing two-day hiking adventure on Mount Kissavos (Ossa), one of Thessaly’s most stunning mountains! We’ll depart from Thessaloniki and head towards the mountain, where we’ll hike through beautiful natural landscapes. Our journey will take us to the Prophet Elias summit (1978m), home to a small chapel carved into the rock, offering breathtaking panoramic views.
We’ll spend the night at the cozy Kissavos mountain refuge (1605m), which provides bedding, hot water, and a spacious common area to relax after the hike. Since there’s no organized kitchen, we’ll provide breakfast, but you’ll need to either bring your own food or join a group order from a local village tavern (we’ll send you the menu before the trip).
This is the perfect getaway for those who love hiking, nature, and adventure!
We’ll be leaving from Thessaloniki, with three meeting spots:
- 08:00 – Voulgari & Konstantinou Karamanli, in front of Everest
- 08:20 – Venizelos Statue & Egnatia Street
- 08:40 – One Salonica, at the open parking lot
Make sure to arrive 10 minutes early so we can set off on time.

Activities / Schedule
Day 1: Departure from Thessaloniki & Hike
After arriving at Spilia village, we begin our hike along Trail 02, which leads us to the Kanalos Refuge (1605m). The ascent follows an exposed ridge, offering panoramic views of the village and the Thessalian plain. The hike takes approximately 2-3 hours, covering 6 kilometers with an elevation gain of 777m. Upon reaching the refuge, we will settle in, explore the surroundings, relax in the spacious common area, and take in the unique mountain atmosphere.
Day 2: Ascent to Prophet Elias Summit
On the second day, our goal is to reach the summit of Mount Kissavos – Prophet Elias (1978m), covering 3 kilometers with an elevation gain of 500m. From the summit, weather permitting, we will descend towards the southeastern side of the mountain, enjoying views of Kissavos' wildest and most rugged landscapes, before reaching Spilia village (6 kilometers). If conditions do not allow for this descent, we will return to the refuge for regrouping and then hike back down via the same trail we ascended.
The total hiking duration for the second day is 5-6 hours.

- Cancellation 7 days or more prior to the agreed activity starting date. You are automatically reimbursed for the full activity price.
- Cancellation between 3 and 7 days prior to the agreed activity starting date. You are entitled to a 50% reimbursement.
- Cancellation 3 days or later are what we call last-minute cancellations. No reimbursements will be effected.
