Perched along the northern border of Argolis and Kynouria, Mount Zavitsa commands attention with its rugged cliffs cascading towards the tranquil waters of the Argolic Gulf while soaring to an impressive altitude of 974 m. Its storied past dates back to ancient times, evidenced by the remnants of an ancient path that once linked Argolis to Arcadia.
Known as the Anigraia Odos, this historic route was first chronicled by the esteemed traveler and geographer, Pausanias, during the 2nd century AD. Described in his comprehensive work on ancient Greece, the path served as a vital link between Argolis and ancient Thyrea, clinging precariously to the coastline in many sections. Remarkably, it remained the sole coastal route connecting these regions until 1953.
Embarking on a journey along the ancient road, travelers are treated to sweeping panoramas of the Argolic Gulf, with the cityscapes of Argos and Nafplion gracing the horizon.
